Nickel Alloy 718, commonly known as Inconel 718, is a precipitation-hardening, corrosion-resistant, heat-resistant nickel alloy available in rods, forgings, sheet, and plate. AMS 5662 and AMS 5663 limit dimensions between parallel sides to 10 inches and less, with a maximum cross-sectional area of 78 inches 2 for bar stock and finished forgings. It is a multi-melt alloy including VIM and/or VAR processes.

The alloy provides high strength and creep rupture properties from cryogenic temperatures to 1300 degree F, as well as resistance to corrosion, weldability and cracking. Nickel Alloy 718 has good resistance to oxidation and corrosion in the temperatures and atmospheres in which jet engines and gas turbines operate. It is also resistant to acid, seawater and acidic oil and/or natural gas corrosion.
